Advanced freestyle and street dance classes are held on Monday at Marist Parish Hall. These classes are invite only, but if you feel you may be better starting at this level please contact us to discuss.
What you should bring.
You need to be able to move when you dance, so please wear comfortable clothing (jogging bottoms/shorts/leggings and a t shirt/vest). Footwear should be flat with a flexible sole (dance shoes, pumps or trainers). If footwear is inappropriate, students will be asked to dance in bare feet. Don’t forget a drink!
If you’d like to order an Empire Dance Centre t-shirt, please ask me during class. Prices are £6 each, £7.50 when personalised with a name.
I have a 4 year old daughter that lives dancing she has tried ballet but she didn’t enjoy it. She knows all up to date music and feel street dance will be better. I know the class is for 10 years and under and wanted to check that she wouldn’t be to young for it
Hi Emma, I have had children as young as three, four and five years old in the class, so it entirely depends on the individual child and their attention span. It is definitely worth her coming to have a go. Routines all start quite simple and I constantly demonstrate at the front so she would always have someone to copy. Hope that helps and if you need any other information, please get in touch. Laura
Hi my daugter is 8 years old and loves dancing around the living room to all the latest pop songs. She doesn’t want ballet or street dance as she can’t do handstands etc so I wondered if these classes would be suitable for her.
Many thanks
Hi Vicky, the best class for your daughter would be 8yrs and over at 6.15pm on Tuesdays at Marist Parish Hall, Cottingham Road. The class is a mixture of freestyle disco dance, slow and street dance. We don’t do any acrobatics in beginner classes so she wouldn’t need to worry about handstands. Hope that helps!
Hi how do I go about finding a class for my 8 year old son he is always dancing so thought I’d find a dance class for him To go to !
Hi Courtney,
I have a beginner dance class at 6.15pm on Tuesdays at Marist Parish Hall on Cottingham Road. It is for 8yrs and over and is a mix of street dance, freestyle disco and slow. If you look on our Facebook page, the latest video I’ve posted is of that class in action. Hope that helps!

Hi Rachel, the class is for mixed ability. We’ve had total beginners in their fifties and ex-dancers in their twenties. The focus is more on dance for fitness than technique – anyone is welcome! Hope that helps, Laura
Hi i’m 16 years old and somewhat intermediate at street dance, I’ve been doing it for 6 years however when i work with younger kids or in large groups i lack a lot of confidence, i’m mainly self-taught. what would be the best grouph for me adults or children.
Hi Fraser, I don’t run any classes for your age group that are solely street. The only class which is purely street is an adult class every Tuesday night at 7pm at Marist Parish Hall. It’s a small class, all female at the moment. You’re welcome to come and try it out
The adult street dance fitness will it be on this coming Tuesday? If so am I able to come along and join?
Hi Louisa, yes the adult street class is on this Tuesday and you’re welcome to come and join us!
Hi do you do any weekend classes for 4 year olds? Thank you
Hello, I’m afraid I only currently run classes for beginners on Tuesdays as per our timetable. Many thanks, Laura
Can I just turn up with my 5 year old daughter next week please? Thank you
Hi Kim,

Kind regards
Laura
Evening,
I am 20 years old and more of an advanced level in street. Is there a more advanced class I would be able to try out?
Kind regards
Jennifer
Hi Jenny
The only class I have for your age group is an Adult class which is mixed ability. If you already have considerable experience, you may find it too easy.
Thanks
Laura
Hiya
Just wondering if your adult classes are still running in January?
And do I need to book?
Hi Hannah
Class starts back on 10th January. No need to book just turn up!
Laura
Hi my son is almost 7 & wants to get back into dancing. When younger he did Annette burley dance school but think he needs more freestyle/ street. Could I bring him along to see what he thinks? X
Hi Sam,
So sorry I must have missed your message with it being after the end of term. We have beginner classes in freestyle disco, lyrical slow and street dance every Tuesday and Wednesday. Tues at Marist Parish Hall 5.30pm 3 – 7 yrs, 6.15pm 8yrs +. Weds at St Albans Church Hall 4.30pm 3 – 7 yrs, 5.15pm 8yrs +. The younger age group class is more of a fun one with dance games and routines. Older class is more routine based. Please let me know if you’d like to bring him along
